Snarl

Like so many Transformers, Snarl was never really in the limelight. Whether it was in the cartoons or comics, he was always a supporting cast member without much depth to his character. It is understandable. There are just way too many Autobots and Decepticons to allow for great character development by the writers. In Snarl's case, however, what you see is what you get. He, like the other Dinobots, wasn't very bright. He was an excellent rank-and-file soldier, who knew how to kick Decepticon ass. Very plain and simple. I suppose, it is that very same simplicity that makes him a cool character.

Snarl In the show, Snarl and Swoop were created by Wheeljack, Ratchet and Chip Chase after the three original Dinobots (Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge) had been coerced by Megatron to turn against the Autobots. After the conflict had been resolved, Snarl and Swoop joined the other three Dinobots apparently with no questions asked. Snarl did not have a large part in the cartoon (as a matter of fact, he is mysteriously absent from the Dinobot ranks through most of Transformers: The Movie). When the spotlight was on Snarl, he was portrayed as a fatalistic, depressing character.

Snarl is actually my second favorite Dinobot Toy (first being Grimlock). In Stegasaur mode, Snarl looks pretty cool. His back plates are gold, and they really catch your eye. Other than that, there is not too much to comment on about this mode. It is in robot form that Snarl really stands out. His upper torso is primarily die-cast metal, giving him a durable appearance. His tail splits in half and fans out on his back, which is a cool effect. A trouble spot in many older Snarl's is his hip section which tends to be very loose in many Snarls due to excessive transformation. For armorment, Snarl wields a sword, rifle, and missile launcher. Overall, a solid B+. Snarl Toy
