DEVASTATOR |
---|
Devastator was the first Gestalt introduced in the Transformers series. At the time of his introduction, he was the most powerful Transformer in existence. After the subsequent introductions of Transformers like Omega Supreme, and the other Gestalt teams, and later on Metroplex, Trypticon, Fortress Maximus and Scorponok, Devastator suddenly didn't seem to be such a badass anymore. In fact, it seemed as if he was the weekest Gestalt on either side. Nonetheless, Devastator was/is a very popular chraracter. |

In the cartoon, the Constructicons were introduced early on as creations of Megatron. It was suggested that they were created on Earth. This contradicts the idea that was introduced later on, that in order to bring Transformers to life, Vector Sigma must infuse them with it. To further cloud matters, later on in the series, Omega Supreme recounted a tale of when the Constructicons were good, and Megatron had reprogrammed them as Decepticons. Needless to say, the Constructicons' history is very unclear. Devastator's role in the Decepticon ranks WAS clear however; total destruction of the Autobots. Early on, only the Dinobots could stand against Devastator. Later, Omega Supreme seemed to kick his ass rather easily. At one point in the second season, Bruticus takes out Devastator. In the Transformers:The Movie, Devastator was the only Gestalt seen. This was due to the fact that the script for the movie was written long before the introduction of the other Gestalt teams. |
Devastator's toy form is unique from the other Gestalts, in that six (not five) members make up the Gestalt. Whereas the "scramble city" model used for most of the other Gestalts allowed for interchanging limbs amongst different Gestalts, Devastator's format allowed for only one combination. Furthermore, where the leader of the Gestalt teams always came with all the necessary "extra" parts needed to form their Gestalt, each of the Constructicon's came with a different part. Devastator is relatively short in stature in comparison to the other Gestalts; about the same height as Menasor. He has a nasty habit of falling apart rather easily if you try to do anything with him other than display. He is pretty close to his cartoon version, however, and does look pretty cool overall. Overall grade of C+. |
